August 2024 INNS Balsam Bashing Event
Monday 15th July 2024
On Friday 9th August 2024, join East Lothian Countryside Rangers and the Project Team for some Balsam bashing!
To help prevent the spread of Himalayan Balsam, the team invite you to learn how to spot and safely remove the plant from around the River Esk.
Himalayan Balsam is an invasive non-native species (INNS) which can outcompete native plants for space, light, nutrients, and pollinators.
Friday 9th August 2024
4pm to 6pm
Wee Green | Station Road | Musselburgh
Meet us at the Wee Green (the grass next to the Ivanhoe Footbridge along Station Road, opposite Eskmills Business Park) at 4pm.
From there, we will take the path along the River Esk toward Whitecraig, turning to come back along the river at the Railway Bridge, bashing some balsam as we go.
The event is fun for all the family! Children can come along and learn more about their river environment.
What to wear?
While Himalayan Balsam is harmless to humans, Stinging Nettles and other plant life will also be present.
To prevent you getting stung or scratched, please wear long sleeves and trousers. Gloves will be provided.
Can’t make this event?
East Lothian Countryside Rangers will be holding more Balsam Bashing events this year. Keep an eye on their website for more information www.elcv.org.uk
